So I`ve had my share of creating some weird french manicures haha, I`ve done one for St. Patty`s Day and one for St. Valentine`s Day but with only a small bit of summer left, I decided to do a fun summer french manicure. It`s not uber bright because it`s only the tips that are neon pink, trust me, I`ve been a little holding back on doing my nails neon colors, I bought China Glaze`s Sun Kissed, which is a neon yellow, and OMG, it`s super bright...like bright to a point where I don`t even wanna see it haha!
So the polishes I used:
<ol> <li><strong>Forever 21 Nailpolish in Taupe</strong></li> <li><strong>Joe Fresh Nailpolish in Neon Pink</strong></li> <li><strong>Sally Hansen Nailpolish in Silver Slingblade</strong></li> <li><strong>Sally Hansen Top Coat and Base Coat</strong></li> </ol>
I also managed to get my hands on the french manicure stickers, they are just pretty much pre-cut strips of tape that you apply on your nails to achieve the french manicure tip shape. You don`t have to use them, you could make your own just simply by using Scotch Tape, I wouldn`t recommend masking tape simply because it sometimes sticks on to the nail/nailpolish too well and it sometimes leaves a sticky residue ontop of your nail.
So here is what I did:
Basically, I followed the steps of achieving a french manicure. So I applied my base coat as usual to protect my nails and then I went forth with doing 1 coat of my Forever 21 taupe nailpolish. I was contemplating on doing a second coat but when I tried it on one nail, it looked too brown so I stuck with only 1 coat instead. Now you must wait for this base color to dry out completely, it can`t be tacky, must be absolutely dry because the next step is placing the stickers on your finger tips. Now I use the curved strips as opposed to the straight ones, but it really depends on your nail shape as well! Make sure you stick the stickers down firmly and securely, making sure there are no bubbles or spaces left where nailpolish can seep through. Make sure you have stuck on all the stickers before applying the tip color. Then go forth with apply a neon shade (in my case, my neon pink), make sure you make the coats thin because if you don`t, you will have to wait a long time for it to dry and to pull off the sticker and you`ll definitely feel the difference in thickness of polish between your tips and the rest of your nails. I had to apply 2 coats for my tips and then I waited for it to completely dry to the touch. The tricky part comes now when you have to take off the stickers. I found that when I went slowly, it would pull and tug on the polish and kind of ruin it, so I tended to rip it super quick off my nail and it seemed to work pretty well! The next step is definitely up to you, but I decided to add a layer of fine holographic glitters on top just to make it more fun! Then I sealed it with a top coat and volia!
This is just a super fun way to spice up a french manicure. You could obviously substitute different colors in and make it as crazy or as subtle as you want!
What do you think about this nail look? Would you every try it?
