While I`ve tried various other foundations, and foundation combinations, this and previous summers, I don`t think anything has worked as well as this routine for me. I`ve had Estee Lauder`s Double Wear Foundation in Tawny for over a year (but I soon realized it was too dark). For that reason, it sat in my makeup drawer for a longtime unused. It`s only slightly dark for me but because my skin is oily and my foundations oxidize, it looked super dark for me after a while. Last fall I picked up the shade above it called Sand, which has been a God-send for me.
Sand is (in my opinion) quite a few shades away from Tawny (despite being the next one up in the line) and has been great for me to mix in with other slightly darker foundations. It also has been a great foundation for me to mix into others which don`t have the lasting power I wish they had to create a great base. For example, NARS Sheer Glow is such an amazing foundation, but it doesn`t last very long. Mixed in with this foundation though, it glows and also remains.
Over the Winter mixing the two shades wouldn`t have worked because they`re long-wearing (i.e. can be drying for dry skin) but over the summer when my skin has been oily these two have provided amazing results!
Estee Lauder Double Wear is a full coverage foundation, which dries quite quickly (so you have to work with it quick or apply to one area of your face at a time). It lasts a very long time without breaking down, and depending on how you apply it, can be worn naturally (if mixed in with a moisturizer or applied very lightly) or made to appear very flawless (if applied more densely).
...the coverage (I don`t wear concealer and this largely takes away the need)
... the consistency (its very creamy but not runny)
... the finish (it leaves a matte yet soft finish)
I don`t like...
... the colour range (I shouldnt have to mix two to get my shade)
... that it doesnt have a pump (it`s not even a foundation that needs shaking so why no pump EL?)
... the availability (for Canadians this brand is exclusively at The Bay or Sears as far as I know)
I don`t mind...
... the price (it`s $38 CA, not super high end but not drugstore either)
... the packaging (nothing special but its not bad either)
Overall, I would recommend this foundation to everyone. The only issue really is getting the right colour and then how you wear it will determine what you get out of it. It`s very versatile so I think it`s one of those foundations that can be multipurpose (daytime and nighttime, casual and formal, etc.).
I hope you guys found this review helpful! Let me know if you have tried this foundation or want to below:).
