My Relaxer Process Using the Softsheen Carson Optimum Care Relaxer

It had been over a year since I had a relaxer and I absolutely needed a touch up so I did it on Sunday night. I havent shared with you all how I self relax my hair so I wanted to share in case anyone was interested. Now before I get into this I want to say that IF YOU ARE NEW TO CHEMICALLY ALTERING YOUR HAIR AT HOME I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DOING AS MUCH RESEARCH AS POSSIBLE ON TECHNIQUES, REQUIREMENTS, PRECAUTIONS AND PROPER CARE BEFORE DOING ANY CHEMICAL TREATMENT TO YOUR HAIR. Now that thats said, I will say that you can achieve salon quality hair at home with the right products and techniques.

Anyway, Ive been relaxing my own hair for a few years now. I usually use the Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil No Lye Relaxer System in Normal but I wasnt blown away by the results of it after Ive used it a few times so I decided to try out a new relaxer. I went with the SOFTSHEEN CARSON OPTIMUM CARE SALON COLLECTION NO LYE RELAXER SYSTEM IN REGULAR that I got from Rite Aid for about $7.00 on sale, I believe the normal price is $8.99. This relaxer is the first relaxer I ever used on my hair back when I was about 14 years old and my mom did it for me. However, it is now New and Improved and contains a bunch of new products in the box. So I decided to try it out again and see if I love it as much as did way back then.

*The Protective Pretreatment
*The Relaxer Cream
*The Activator
*The Neutralizing Shampoo
*The Reconstructor
*The Leave In Strengthener
*The Whipped Oil Moisturizer
*Plastic Gloves
*A Mixing Spatula

Step 1: Part my hair in 4 sections and clip each section.

Step 2: Mix the Relaxer cream and the Activator together for about 2 minutes until it was a uniform peachy color using the wooden spatula provided.

Step 3: Allow the mixture to sit while I apply the Protective Treatment to my previously relaxed ends to protect them from being re-relaxed and also put a little castor oil over the treatment for extra protection. I also put castor oil around my hair line and ears to protect it from being chemically burned.

Step 4: Put on the gloves and begin by applying the relaxer mixture to my roots (non relaxed hair) only section by section parting into the section and applying the product for thorough distribution with a rat tail comb.

Step 5: Once the relaxer is all over the hair that is not previously relaxed, smooth the relaxer into the hair section by section using my hands (with the gloves). Allow the relaxer to sit in my hair for about 10 minutes after that.

Step 6: Rinse the relaxer from my hair with warm water.

Step 7: Shampoo my hair 3 times with the neutralizing shampoo to make sure all traces of the relaxer is gone. I washed my hair a 4th time with my Organic Root Stimulator Creamy Aloe shampoo since it is also a neutralizing shampoo.

Step 8: Towel and air dry my hair until it was almost dry and then I applied the Reconstructor. I put on a plastic cap and allowed it to sit in my hair for about 10-15 minutes. I then rinsed it out with lukewarm water.

Step 9: I allowed my hair to almost completely dry and then applied my LOreal Total Repair 5 Restoring Conditioner for a deep condition. I put on a plastic cap and allowed it to sit in my hair for 1 hour while I cleaned my room. I then rinsed it out with cool water.

Step 10: I allowed my hair to air dry completely. I then applied the Leave In Strengthener and some of my Aussie Hair Insurance liquid leave in conditioner. I allowed that to dry completely.

Step 11: I then applied the Whipped Oil Moisturizer to my hair and I was done!

It was definitely a lot of steps and the whole process took a few hours but in the end it was worth it because my hair feels and looks great. I will come back with a in depth review of the actual products contained in the box but this is my relaxer process. Sorry I didnt get before or after pics because I was so exhausted when I was done, I will post some pics of my hair when I style it.

Thanks for checking this out!!
