I have an oily Tzone yet the only two "matte" foundations I own are MUFE and Chanel, really, they should all be matte right? well I decided it was time to put these two babies to the test, especially seeing as the price difference is up there.
Make Up Forever Matte Velvet+
I love this foundation. I got it last year after trying the MUFE HD and seeing how shiny I would get after a couple of hours but I am a sucker for the hype lol anyways, this foundation comes in a small plastic bottle with a black cap, which actually looks a little like the Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua. Matte Velvet + is $36 for 1.01 oz, comes in 16 shades and is sold at sephora. I have the shade 40 Natural Beige which is a pretty good match for my light to medium yellow undertone skin (NC25ish). it does have a very velvety finish like the name implies, it`s water resistant, and it claims to be full coverage, it does not contain spf like Chanel though.
Chanel Mat Lumiere
this was a big foundation splurge for me as it`s $54 for 1oz. the Chanel foundation comes in a very nice frosted glass bottle that feels quite heavy. I love the rose scent it has, I mean I got nuts over it. it claims to deliver a soft, natural matte finish, medium coverage with lasting power of 12 hours and it has spf15. there are only 7 shades available on the website but here`s the possible reason - there`s a rumor going around that it`s going to be discontinued. yup, that`s right, yet another Chanel foundation on its way out. my shade is 30 Cendre.
neither of these foundations oxidize on my skin but be warned, if you have any kind of peach fuzz or super long hairs growing out of your chin (hey, I`ve seen that *shudders*) both of these foundations will accentuate that like crazy. after 6 hours, they both looked the same, some of the shine on my forehead had started to come through. after 10 hrs my tzone was looking pretty shiny but my cheeks looked like I had just applied the foundations. they didn`t separate or melt off. as far as coverage goes, it looks like Chanel has better coverage if ever so slightly, but I don`t think they`re full coverage, medium yes with Chanel being on the higher spectrum of that.
I know I`m thinking that if Chanel does in fact discontinues the Mat Lumiere and doesn`t replace it with something better, would the MUFE Matte Velvet+ be a good substitute ?? I would have to say yes in my book. I think they both performed amazingly well and if Mat Lumiere is gone, I would have no problem with sticking to Matte Velvet+.
