Well well a 12 hour night shift with nothing to do.. hmm.. I decided to take a break from regularly scheduled beauty posts and post something about food ! Im not your average foodie but Id like to incorporate a few food posts here and there into my blog thats 99.9% Beauty hauls/reviews.. Let`s start here.. Im gonna be doing a few reviews on local places I discover... if you guys dont know...I live in Calgary, Canada, so Im featuring different local bakeries...cafes anything.. Wow that was a long intro... lets get into it shall we?!
I first discovered macarons.. well probably on instagram... brightly colored pastries that every foodie at one point had a picture of... I attempted to hunt them down in my city via basic google search. I only found one bakery at that point, this was a few years ago... of course the famous Yann Haute Patisserie. Nothings ever compared to their freshly made authentic french macarons.. worth every penny in this macarons lover`s opinion. Since then of course I was always looking for some other macarons to try.. Presidents choice at one point sold macarons which were also quite good... I cant find them anymore though.
Yann being so far I wanted to find something a bit closer.. Monplaisir isnt that close either its still located in downtown... stephen ave/the core.. its in the very corner of the foodcourt right beside the tim hortons... I always knew they sold macarons in that mall I could never find them though I actually had to ask one of the other vendors where it was... location isnt terrible once you find it, you can enjoy your macarons sitting in the devonian gardens which is less than 2 mins away.. so as far as atmosphere goes, I do like that... and of course the timmies right beside it..come on what goes good with macarons.. coffee/tea obvs!
Onto the actual macarons.. ugh you guys..theres sooooo many flavors.. you could easily spend $30 a visit.. which is what I normally spend at yann.. those things arent cheap. They have some unique flavors that I havent seen before like cassis, honey & Lavender, matcha tea.... These macarons arent my fave sadly... Yann still has my heart. They were good but some flavors I noticed werent fresh... as in harder to bite into...it was like I had kept them in my fridge for 3 days. Some flavors didnt work for my personal taste.. matcha wasnt my fave it was kinda bitter... ones that I loved - Lavender honey & Rose lychee.. although rose lychee from yann was still better.. these werent terrible and take a close second... some things to improve on ...other than that they offer a variety of macaron flavors there has to be something for everyone. (: 3.5/5 Stars..go try it for yourself.
