The Mexican forward was not utilized off the bench as United`s arch rival grabbed a crucial victory
Chicharito sits, while Dos Santos sees rare playing time in England
The biggest game of the year in England was a big disappointment for Mexican Javier Hernandez, who didnt see the field in Manchester Uniteds 1-0 loss to Manchester City which left the Citizens in pole position for the title.
Needing at least a tie on Citys ground to maintain first place, Alex Ferguson opted for a pairing of Wayne Rooney and Nani up front. The strike force was relatively ineffective, but the manager chose to send Danny Welbeck and Antonio Valencia on to beef up the attack, leaving Chicharito on the bench and wondering about his role as the year comes to a close.
Things were a little brighter in Tottenham, as Spurs returned to the top four of the Premier League. Gio Dos Santos played a late six minutes of mop-up duty as the hosts comfortably dispatched relegation-threatened Blackburn at home, 2-0.
In the English second flight, Antonio Pedroza came on in the 57th minute, closing out the season with a good run of appearances as Crystal Palace finished the Championship campaign safe in 17th place, with a 2-1 home loss to playoff-bound Cardiff.
Efrain Juarez, on the other hand, seems to be on the outs for good at Celtic. The Mexican was again not on the bench as the Hoops but a 3-0 beating on Rangers, confirming their dominance in the SPL.
Ochoa solid, but Ajaccio still loses
Down in France, Memo Ochoa was on again, making 10 saves against Stade Rennes on Sunday. But it was the usual story as he couldnt stop the home team from putting in two late to seal a 3-1 victory. Ochoa and Ajaccio remain precariously placed just one point above the drop zone.
Francisco Rodriguez started and played the full 90 in defense for Stuttgart in Bundelsiga action, but his afternoon was marred by a failed backpass which ushered Bayern Munich into the lead on 32 minutes. After a tough half hour marking Bundesliga scoring leader Mario Gomez, Maza attempted to head a pass back to his keeper, but the poor effort was run onto by Thomas Muller, who squared for Gomez to put the European finalists in the lead.
Tough weekend for Mexicans in Spain
La Liga action wasnt much brighter for Mexican defenders. In Barcelona Hector Moreno and his Espanyol teammates had a terrible day, as they saw their European dreams slip further away with a 3-0 loss at home to Sporting Gijon. The center back chipped in a full 90, and wasnt solely responsible for any of the goals in a game he and his club would probably rather forget.
Elsewhere in La Liga, after playing last week, Pablo Barrera didnt see the field for Zaragoza as his club moved a little closer to saving itself from relegation with a win over Europa Cup finalist Athletic Bilbao. On the north coast of Spain, Real Sociedad confirmed its spot in La Liga for next season, and sent Racing Santander down in the bargain with a 3-0 win at home. Carlos Vela continued his good form with an active 69 minute shift, though he didnt find the back of the net this time out.

Jona Dos Santos and his Barcelona B side had a rough weekend in the second flight, falling 4-1 to Celta Vigo on the road, with the Mexican starting and finishing the contest in his central midfield spot. Anibal Zurdo and Guadalajara dropped a 3-2 decision to Cordoba, with the Spanish-Mexican leading the line up top, as usual. Deportivo La Coruna was without Andres Guardado, due to a strain in his left leg according to the club, as its win streak was halted at Almeria.
Dutch action saw Ulises Davila at least make the bench for Vitesse, though he didnt see the field in the 3-2 win over Excelsior. Fellow former El Tri under-20 Edson Rivera was again left out entirely for Braga in Portugal.
Baca and Pardo play full matches, Marquez still suspended
In MLS action, former El Tri captain Rafa Marquez is still suspended but Rafael Baca played the full 90 again, as the young Michoacán native continues to become a force in the league. The midfielder helped lead the Western Conference leading San Jose Earthquakes to a come-from-behind 2-1 win at Philadelphia. Elsewhere, Pavel Pardo played the usual full 90 for Chicago, but it wasnt enough as the Fire fell at home to Seattle, 2-1.
