One of the attractions I saw while I was on my cruise to Alaska was Mendenhall Glacier! It was one of the attractions my family and I saw while our ship was docked in Juneau. From the port where the cruise ship was docked it was a quick 15-20 minute drive up to Mendenhall Glacier. Mendenhall Glacier is located in Mendenhall Valley which is about 12 miles from downtown Juneau. The tour my family and I were on to get to the Glacier was very affordable since its a quick trip. Its $8 per person each way so really $16 per person and besides the ride up to the glacier it also included a tour of the town. Juneau isnt huge so the city tour wasnt very long maybe about 20 minutes. Since it was summer when I was in Alaska the weather wasnt too cold. The weather was actually pretty perfect but according to our tour guide that day it was a hot day for them. It was only about 65 degrees which I thought was a nice comfortable temperature. Once we got up to the glacier I have to say I was a bit under whelmed with the lack of glaciers I actually saw. It really is true that the glaciers are melting! Even though I expected to see more I was still amazed at what I saw. I also even saw a lot of floating glaciers in the water which I thought was pretty cool. The area is pretty picturesque but since we had a limited time there before we had to get back onto our ship we didnt get to hike to the waterfall there. It was a great experience especially since its something not a lot of people see on the daily or in ones lifetime so it was nice to experience seeing a glacier in person. ______________________________________________________________________________________________
