Hi everyone! Earlier this week was Memorial Day for the United States, a day to remember and honor those who have served in the military, which has also become another shopping holiday for civilians and military personnel alike. My mom and I went to the Vacaville outlets to check out the sales and I came away with a lot of goodies.
A warning about shopping at the outlets: Sometimes the deals during the holidays are not as good as the sales during a regular, non-holiday, shopping day. The Coach outlet was giving out an extra 50% off on all items in the store. Normally this would sound like a great sale, but the catch was that most of the items in the store were not already marked down. A small purse I purchased there a few months ago was $228 with no additional markdowns other than the extra 50% off for the Memorial Day holiday, making the purse $114 (pre-tax). When I purchased the purse in March, on a regular day, the purse was on sale, with an additional 20% off, making it less than $100 (pre-tax; $108 with tax)! So be warned that shopping at an outlet during a holiday may actually not lead to greater savings. I have also heard from employees that certain stores will mark up the original price, and then put it on sale to make it seem like you are getting a good deal when you actually aren`t.
The sale at the Bare Minerals outlet was actually a good deal, as I have seen them at the store on a regular day. Normally these palettes sell for $24.50 EACH, but for the holiday they had a deal where you could purchase two of the 8-pan eyeshadow palettes for $35 total. The Bare Minerals eyeshadows have gotten great reviews on blogs and YouTube, but I could never justify paying so much money for such a small amount of product: $20 for the eyeshadow duos, $30 for the quads and $40 for an 8-pan palette. (In comparison, you can get an Urban Decay Naked palette, which features 12 FULL SIZED eyeshadows [$18 individually], for $54)
The two palettes I picked up are:
>> The Star Treatment: The warmer toned of the two palettes, it features gold, bronze, peach and olive shadows
>> The Finer Things: This one has a different mix of colors, generally cooler toned than Star Treatment
Both palettes came with a mini version of their eyeshadow primer which I`m excited to try.
Thanks for reading! Did you pick anything up during the holiday?
