If you haven`t heard already, a big tornado hit Oklahoma and killed a lot of people. It was a huge tornado that was approximately 1-2 miles long, about 35 minute duration (dissipating now), and headed through a very populated area. Also, this is not the first tornado of this particular storm system and probably won`t be the last.
It`s not surprising that a tornado hit Moore, OK because that has always been the worst place for tornados in Oklahoma. However, it is devastating.
What can you do?
Right now, the best thing you can do is stay away from Moore. I know that goes against what you think you should be doing, but they don`t need an influx of well-intentioned people going down there right now while emergency crews are still working. It only causes congestion and delays help. In a few days when that is taken care of, there will be announcements of ways to help. Meanwhile, start a food/clothing/household goods drive to donate. Or start a drive to donate items to help with the rescue workers--gloves, dust masks, and bottled water (tons of it).
Really wish I was closer to Moore, OK than I am. Wish I could volunteer and help. Maybe I`ll at least donate blood or plasma sometime this week. And donate some of my paycheck. I hope some of you will too My thoughts and prayers reach out to those suffering from the tornado at Oklahoma.
