Mascara-- Volume or Length?

So girls, which is better? Length or Volume? (And you can`t say both.)

This question came about when I recently visited my family about an hour and a half away from where I live. My aunt, female cousin, and I were discussing makeup. My cousin (only a few years older than me) and I both agreed that volume is better; my aunt said that it was all about length. Expressing my disagreement and not much else, I changed the subject but continued to think: why do I like volume better than length?

Length, without appropriate volume, can look weird. Have you ever noticed girls with badly applied mascara with eyelashes that are straight, see-through, fragile, and just plain weird? The problem with length is that the lashes can sometimes be too separated, leaving an empty, stringy look. If you don`t know what I`m talking about (and my description isn`t good enough for you to picture), try taking notice of random girls on the street. You`re bound to see what I`m talking about.

If you can`t get both, volume is the safest way to go. Even if your lashes are super short, at least they won`t be empty as well. A problem with volume, though, is that the volume brushes typically make it a lot easier to clump the lashes--if you clump easily, go with length!

But it`s still debatable. What do you think? Volume or length? If any guys are reading this... do guys have opinions over one or the other?
