I went to a fundraiser recently at a vegan cupcake shop, and couldn`t resist walking out *without* a cupcake! So I got a cupcake that had maple frosting and chocolate cake. There was even a little bit of maple sugar sprinkled on top of it!
In addition to being vegan, this cupcake was nut- and dairy-free. There were cupcakes that were also gluten-free (in addition to being vegan, nut-, and dairy-free), but they didn`t have the maple flavour, and I am not a big fan of gluten-free cakes. I find that they are too dense, sometimes gritty, and at worst...rubbery. I have had gluten-free cupcakes/muffins that could have been bounced off the floor, they were so rubbery. But I digress!
This cupcake was pretty good, I have to say. The chocolate cake was okay. The icing was AWESOME, though. It definitely dressed up the flavour of the cake, which was pretty plain-jane. Moral of the story? Vegan cupcakes can be yummy, too! =D
