Tonight I got to see a free screening of Seeking a Friend for the End of the World courtesy of the Village Voice. I had invited two of my friends but both couldn`t make it. So alas it was just me and the popcorn. (Yes it`s ironic that I was seeking a friend for Seeking a Friend!)
If you haven`t seen the trailer then the story goes that a large meteor is headed for Earth and well, it`s the End of the World as we know it in a few weeks. Steve Carrell plays the character Dodge whose wife runs away (LITERALLY!). And he and his neighbor Penny (Keira Knightley) crosses path. If you like comedy, and romance then this movie is for you. There are some dark scenes. It is the end of the world after all. But for the most part even the dark scenes turns into comedic situation.
One of my favorite lines is early on when they first meet and Penny says to Dodge "I promise not to steal from you if you promise not to rape me!" LOL Sorry you had to be there.
What I don`t like about the movie and this girl was sitting next to me said it best. Why are they turning this comedy into a chick flick! I really didn`t like parts where Kiera would just go on and on in her dialogue trying to make her character more adorable to Steve`s but just annoys the heck out of me, dragging out the film.
But overall, I would say this is one of the better comedies this year. Definitely better lines than That`s My Boy starring Adam Sandler.
Talk the TALK
1) If it was the End of the World what would you do?
2) Do you like Steve Carrell as an actor?
