"Step 1: Exfoliate & Moisturize
First, you will need to use a lip scrub to exfoliate any dead skin and smooth out the surface of your lips. This will leave your pout ready for a rich lip balm, which we get to next. Some great scrubs include Sara Happ The Lip Scrub Brown Sugar Exfoliator and my DIY Brown Sugar Olive Oil Scrub. Keep your lips smooth and hydrated by applying a good balm every night before you go to bed for a week leading up to your date. Click here to see some of Laurens favorites.
Step 2: Line
Once your lips are fully exfoliated and moisturized, you will need to add definition and shape with a lip liner that matches the hue of your lipstick. This will also help prevent feathering later onmeaning your lipstick wont run outside of the lines.
Step 3: Tint
Now its time to fill it all in with color. Choose a tint thats a pretty close match to the color of your lipstick. A lip tint will essentially stain your lips, so even if you are eating and drinking throughout the night, there will be some color on your lips at all times. Tints also work really well after your lips are exfoliated, so dont forget step 1!
Step 4: Lipstick
After your lips are prepped, lined, and tinted, go ahead and apply your lipstick color. Just continue to make sure that you are using uniform shades through the process so that you arent getting a mixed, mucky hue. Some lipsticks last better than othershere are a few that have excellent reputations in the beauty world: Covergirl Outlast All-Day Lipcolor, Chanel Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème Lip Color, MAC Lipstick.
Step 5: Seal
Your last step for getting smooch-certified lips is sealing the deal. This is a little trick I use myself. After you have applied your lipstick, hold a tissue over your lips and lightly dust translucent powder over the tissue. The powder will ever so lightly fall on your lips through the tissue, and it will set your lip color the same way it sets your makeup when you use it on your face."
