Mad Men is set in the 1960s, in New York, and closely follows the competitive life of men and women of Madison Avenue, a world of advertising, a selfish world where key players make an art out of sales.
The series revolves around the life of Don Draper, who is an ace in the buisness of advertising, but also features an ensemble cast representing several segments of society in 1960s New York. The series also emphasizes the role of men and women of this era.
The New York Life from the 60s is not much different from what we see today ... luxury, business, family life, betrayal, mistresses, and many other areas shows that we dont change that much in time, maybe just people change, but the habits and the situations remain the same! Mad Men is perhaps one of the most serious and complex tv show that Ive ever seen. A special series that creates a certain state of dependence as it happened to me with some other tv show.
The action is exciting on one hand, but may be slightly boring on the other hand; however, this is a tv show that address an original topic considering the themes promoted by other Tv shows that are currently on air.
Mad Men has received critical acclaim, particularly for its historical authenticity, visual style, costume design, acting, writing, and directing, and has won many awards, including fifteen Emmys and four Golden Globes.
I`m curious to see in what direction Mad Men will go, since it is not an easy show to watch if we were to consider its gestures, symbols, mimics and many other signs; this series is interesting but slow in action and character development, unfortunately.
