I have only worn black eyeliner throughout my whole life. However, for the past few months, I had an urge to try colored eyeliners. I have heard a lot of talk about how colored eyeliners help enhance the beauty of your natural eye color. So, I was waiting for the moment when my black eye liner would run out so I could make my first purchase of a colored eye liner and give it a try. My natural eye color is the same as all asians, dark brown... (unless there are 100% full blooded asians with colored eyes out there, which I have never met). I read that blue, green, purple, brown and gold eyeliners look great with brown eyes when I did my research about colored eyeliners.
Last week, my black eye liner finally ran out. Needless to say, I was SUPER EXCITED to purchase my very first colored eyeliner! Since I have never tried a colored liner before, I decided to start off with navy blue. Navy blue is still dark enough that I didn`t feel out of my "comfort zone" since I am so used to wearing black liner.
I made my way to Ulta and my first choice was Urban Decay`s 24/7 glide-on eye pencil since this is the #1 eyeliner sold in the U.S. I have read so many positive reviews on this liner and was super eager to swatch the color "binge" on my hand. Once I swatched it, I fell in love with the formula; It glided on so softly and smoothly just like butter. While at Ulta, I also saw the NYX slide on pencils which are comparable to the UD 24/7 glide on pencils but they didn`t have a navy blue color.
Before I purchased Urban Decay`s "Binge", I wanted to stop by my local MAC counter to see if they had blue liners too... and not just ANY blue liner... I wanted a blue liner with the same formula/consistency as the UD 24/7 glide-on pencils. TA-DA!!! MAC had it of course because they always have EVERYTHING!
The liner that I found is a pearlglide liner which is comparable to the famous Urban Decay 24/7 glide-on eye pencil except this one has shimmer/glitter!!! The color is called "Petrol Blue". It is a navy blue with a pearl finish. It glides on as smooth as butter! Since it is so buttery and smooth, it won`t tug on your eyes and won`t cause wrinkles. The color is so vibrant, yet still dark enough that it is conservative & work-appropriate and good for everyday use. My eyelids are oily and most eyeliners will smear on my eyelids. This eyeliner smeared very slightly after 12 hours of wear which I think is pretty impressive! I also used this on my waterline and it did NOT smear at all!!! I am definitely repurchasing this, and most likely, the same color! It doesn`t say that it is waterproof, but I`m convinced that it is since my waterline didn`t smear at all. This eyeliner is $15 USD which is pricey for an eyeliner but I use eyeliner everyday and I`m sure I`ll get my money`s worth. My favorite part about this eyeliner is that this eyeliner color really does sparkle in the sunlight and it is the most gorgeous blue I`ve ever seen. It makes my boring brown eyes pop which is a huge plus in my book!
(If you have sensitive eyes, I do not recommend that you use this liner on your waterline since some people do report irritations because of the "pearl/shimmer/glitter".)
MAC Pearlglide $15
Urban Decay Glide-on pencil $19
NYX slide-on pencil $8
