Hello lovely Luuuxers!
Every holiday, MAC comes out with a bunch of great collections and gift sets, and this year is no different! One of the collections is called the `Objects of Affection` collection and it consists of four pigment sets and four lipglass sets, all cased in a gorgeous collectible gift box. I decided to go for one of the pigment sets in Gold/Beige, because the gold, taupe and brown shades seemed the most wearable and versatile. I loved the metallic finish on a few of these, and I was really excited to play around with the loose gold glitter!!
These pigments are all much smaller than a full-size, but the great thing about pigments is that a tiny bit goes a LONG way. So even though they are small, I know they will last me a very long time! If you are unfamiliar with using pigments, they are basically loose shadows, so you have to use a lot of care when applying them. If using them dry, you should definitely do your eye makeup before your foundation so you can clean up any fall-out. I, however, love using the pigments wet, using a spritz or two of MAC Fix+ to dampen them. This brings out the intensity in the colors, and makes the metallic or shimmery shades look a lot more vibrant and reflective.
From left to right, the shade names are: Lithe, English Gilt, Pretty It Up, Gold, and Deep Brown. Lithe has a satin finish, English Gilt and Pretty It Up are pearl/metallic finishes, Gold is a loose glitter, and Deep Brown is matte. I am a fan of the varying finishes in this set, which makes it very versatile! Gold and Deep Brown are both permanent shades, and the remainder are limited edition.
So far, my favorite shade has been English Gilt. It looks incredible when it is placed on the middle of the lid to add brightness, due to its gorgeous golden champagne color and shiny metallic finish. I was nervous to use the Deep Brown matte shade, because I had never used a matte loose pigment before, but it blended like a dream and I am a big fan. I also did not think I would really enjoy the loose glitter as much, but I`ve been playing around with it, and it is such a fun glitter! The little glitter pieces are really small, and not chunky at all, so they give the lid a gorgeous look without looking too cheap or tacky. I can imagine this glitter being PERFECT for a holiday party, or even better, for New Year`s Eve!
In all, for $35 USD, this set is an amazing deal and gives five great eye products to play with. If you are a fan of MAC, or of loose pigments, or of gorgeous neutral eyeshadows, then this set will not disappoint! You can find it at Nordstrom, Macy`s, http://maccosmetics.com, or your local MAC professional store.
Have any of you tried the MAC holiday releases yet? What did you think? Will you be trying this pigment set?
