Mac and Cheese with Panko Bread

I`m a big lover of mac and cheese. I don`t mind the Kraft ones, but I do enjoy the more "sophisticated" type served at restaurants. I`ve never made any type of pasta before, so I thought mac and cheese would be an easy one to start with, and one that I would enjoy even if it somewhat fails.

The recipe that I used can be found here:

Since I already had milk, flour, and the spices, the rest of the ingredients costed around $20. The recipe calls for a lot of cheese so that`s where most of the money went.

I followed exactly what the recipe says to do, and the result turned out to be amazing. Oh actually since buying individual asiago and romano was too expensive, I opted for a shredded mixture of asiago, romano, and parmesan that was sold together in a bottle. I think the parmesan made the dish a little bit bitter, but it added to the complexity of the overall taste. The golden brown panko bread crumbs sprinkled on top of the mac and cheese really helped with the presentation. It also tastes great as it`s quite crispy.

From the pictures, you can`t really see the macaroni underneath the bread crumbs, but they are there!

The recipe serves 8 people. I think it sounds about right. But since I have a small family, it took us 3 days to finish everything. It was still very very yummy as left overs. It`s especially good when it`s sizzling hot.

I highly recommend this recipe to people who are looking for an easy way to make "sophisticated" macaroni and cheese.
