Lunch: Banh Tet

Chinese New Year just passed a few days ago (well technically today is the third day) and I was home over the weekend to help my parents prepare/clean the house. I love Chinese New Year because my mom always makes a lot of food to celebrate. All of our relatives come over to eat and we celebrate together. One of the things that I like to eat during this holiday is <strong>banh tet</strong>. My mom actually made these herself at home and it`s so yummy. She used to make really big portions, but she scaled them down so one cake is the perfect serving for one person. I like eating my banh tet with sugar :) .

<strong>What`s inside my mom`s banh tet?</strong>
<dd>- Glutinous rice
- Mung beans
- Meat (specifically pork)</dd>

Banh tet is made by taking banana leaves, filling them with your desired ingredients, wrapping/tying everything together, and then boiling it. My mom starts with the banana leaves, then she does a layer of glutinous rice and a layer of mung beans. She nestles the meat in the mung beans. She wraps everything up with the banana leaves and ties the little package together with string. I`m not sure how long she cooks it for, but the whole house smells amazing whenever my mom makes banh tet.
