This was my lunch from this afternoon. I actually wasn`t planning on having this since I had so many responsibilities on my plate I didn`t have time to go to the Asian market. My mother did and ended up grabbing one for me and gave it to me when she saw me. I had gone to the gym this morning then ran countless errands afterwards only to head home, completely starving. While putting my groceries away this bad boy was brought to me. I tried my first Bahn Mi about a month or so ago and have been completely hooked since.
The sandwich itself is a Vietnamese dish. It`s served on a classic Vietnamese style hoagie roll, which has the best texture to be honest because there isn`t much "filling" in the bread, it`s mainly a crispy crust/shell. The sandwich is filled with sliced sirloin, cilantro, cucumbers, pickled carrots, pickled radishes and a small smear of mayonnaise. The vegetables, sirloin and mayonnaise blend together so well it`s quite a good meal. The one thing I will say is this sandwich was HOT! I was quite surprised with how hot it was because I`ve had them almost every weekend (eeeek!!) and this one had my throat on fire for a moment. I thought perhaps it was the radishes because I know radishes can get spicy but this was something else. I ended up opening the sandwich and there were little chili`s (it looked like the chili sauce) in there. OH! It wasn`t terrible, but it packed quite a bunch -- a punch I wasn`t expecting. Although, it was still delicious. I could eat these things morning, noon and night -- it`s horrible (my obsession not the sandwich LOL).
