Usually, when I go to a coffee shop, I get some sort of baked good, such as a muffin or loaf or whatever. However, I am trying to reduce my intake of refined flour/sugar, so I opted for some vegan chili the last time I stopped by my local independent coffee shop.
I was expecting it to be healthy, but rather flavourless. Often times, when I have tried a vegan soup or stew from a cafe or restaurant that does not generally offer special diet dishes (i.e., places that kinda just throw something on the menu to attract customers who are on a special diet), it has been flavourless. But this chili was great! It was simple, containing onions, crushed tomatoes, corn, and kidney beans, but was seasoned really well. It was thick, flavourful, and not watery, which is really important in a chili (for me, anyway!). I was actually quite surprised. It wasn`t too spicy, either, which was great. I`m not sure exactly what seasonings they used, but whatever they were, they worked!
I am definitely going to be getting this vegan chili again. It was yummy and filling, an healthy to boot! =)
