Next up on my tour for the must see mountains of North Carolina is Looking Glass Rock Mountain. Located about 5 1/2 miles from Brevard, North Carolina in Transylvania County, Looking Glass Rock is another Mountain similar to Stone Mountain and Bald Rock Mountain in that an entire flank of the mountain exposes a huge granite rock face. The White Granite face gives this Mountain it`s name in that it shines like glass in sunlight. As with most mountains located with in the Blue Ridge Range, Looking Glass Rock has a lot of trails leading around and then up the mountain, but given its step terrain the trails are moderately difficult. And like Stone Mountain, Looking Glass Rock has some of the best Rock Climbing in North Carolina and even includes free hand climbing. The views from the top of Looking Glass Rock are terrific and you can even see Mount Pisgah a little ways off. There are several picnic areas around the mountain and even on on top and is a great place to eat... if you can make it up the trails that is. There are 2 camping grounds around the mountain as well. It`s not as Kid friendly as most of the other mountains I have mentioned, but if you`re into hard hiking and some great rock climbing then Looking Glass Rock is the best mountain to come to.
