This was tonight`s dinner... a loaded macaroni & cheese (with a spinach salad on the side, not pictured). It started with my husband asking me if I`d make a homemade hamburger helper. Yes, folks... I kid you not. This man wanted HAMBURGER HELPER! ::shakes head:: He has such a simple palette. I told him I would.. but it wasn`t going to have hamburger, rather would be a loaded mac & cheese. I met him in the middle. I started with one of my husband`s favorite macaroni & cheeses that I make, homemade. I`ve posted about that, which you can see here: /viz/homemade-mac-n-cheese I mixed it up, though, and added other ingredients into it. After I had the basic mac n cheese together, I mixed in some peas. Then, everything went into the baking dish and was topped with real bacon pieces (quite a lot, yum!) and then Panko bread crumbs. That went into the oven, the same as the regular mac & cheese would. Each serving was then topped with some fresh green onions. It still had the taste of the original mac & cheese, but had the bonus of added goodies! If you are interested in making something like this, I really suggest looking at the post I mentioned where I made it before because that gives you the basis for a really amazing, cheesy, unique mac & cheese (has 3 cheeses: bleu, shredded cheddar, jar cheese)... trust me, it is good!
