My fiance recently picked up a pair of Vibram Komodosport LS shoes as his coworkers all run races in Vibrams so I figured I would jump onto the Vibram train and get a pair too. I headed over to Fast Trax Run & Ski in my city and looked at their selection and picked up the Bikilas and also tried on the Komodosport shoes, but was set on the Bikilas because of the Magenta and Orange color. I originally wanted the green and silver but that was not a color the store had carried. The Bikilas were ccreated exclusively for a more natural running experience. They have a Dri-Lex® covered 3mm polyurethane insole and a 4mm anatomical pod outsole design that offers more plating for underfoot protection. It distributes forefoot impact without compromising important ground feedback essential to a proper forefoot-strike running form. It also has 3M reflective surfaces. I have run in these three times now once for 10 minutes, once for about 45 minutes and once for an hour. You are supposed to gradually build upto long distance running and only run for 10 minutes for a while and build up but I walked in them for 5 days and decided to do a longer run and the are great. I shaved 4 minutes off of my best time for an 8km run and did a 10km run with my fiance in 1 hour and 59 seconds.
The downside is that the left shoe really digs into the back of my leg/feet/heel area and hurts. I at one point during my 8km run thought I had a rock in my shoe but it was the shoe rubbing and scraping me :( What a shame because I wanted to run a half marathon in these but unless I get some moleskin to tape on myself and it stays it won`t happen.
Have you ever tried Vibram Five Finger Shoes?
Have you ever had shoes scrape you like that too?
