Life of Pi - Movie Review

4 years ago

Hi everyone!
Today I saw the drama/adventure movie Life of Pi. It stars Suraj Sharma, Irrfan Khan and Rafe Spall. This movie is nominated for 11 Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Visual Effects, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design and Best Film Editing.
Pi Patel, in the present day, is a middle-aged man living in Canada has an immigrant. Pi tells his life story to a novelist.
When Pi was 12 years old he lived in India with his parents and his brother. Pi and his family were vegetarians and they were raised as Hindu. However, Pi also believes in Christianity and Islam and he follows those 3 religions.
Pis parents own a zoo with a lot of animals but Pi seems to be more interested in their Bengal tiger named Richard Parker, until his father teaches him that the tiger is not his friend and that he his dangerous.
When Pi is 16, his parents decide to move to Canada where they intend to sell their zoo animals. So they bring the animals with them to the ship. However, one night there is a storm and Pi seems to be the only one to escape in a lifeboat, as well as a hyena, an orangutan, a zebra and the Bengal tiger.
I think this movie was very well made but I think there were some parts of it that I found hard to believe and, at the end of the movie, I understood why.
Until seeing this movie I was convinced that Django Unchained was the movie that most deserved to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, but now I have a different opinion. So far Ive seen Django Unchained, Silver Linings Playbook, Argo, Zero Dark Thirty and now this one.
The only thing that upsets me is that this movie is based on a novel written in 2001 but a Brazilian writer wrote almost the same story back in 1981, even though the author of Life of
Pi claims he hasnt read the other novel.
Anyway, I liked this movie and I give it a 8 out of 10 (8/10).
* Spoilers alert*
I cant believe the all story was only a metaphor!
