This has got to be one of the my favorite cakes that I have ever made, and it doesn`t even have a fruit compote in it! I have always tended towards cakes that are fruity, but this one really was fantastic. It has some homemade caramel on it which i had infused some lavender into by boiling the lavender buds with the heavy cream before adding it to the sugar (please remember to sift out the lavender before continuing with your recipe!) and then i couldn`t` figure out what to do with my caramel so I baked a chocolate cake and used the heavy whipping cream in my fridge to make some whipping cream icing and drizzled it over! the taste of lavender, which to be honest I was expecting to be light and hard to define was actually quite distinct and almost minty! quite the surprise!
