The Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns have agreed to a blockbuster sign-and-trade deal to make star point guard Steve Nash the newest teammate for Kobe Bryant.
As the Lakers look to put together a commanding "Big Four" of their own, Los Angeles has agreed to trade two future first-round draft picks along with two future second-round selections and $3 million cash to Phoenix in exchange for Nash.
There were some important factors in Steve Nashs decision to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers over his other suitors from around the NBA: the money ($27 million over three years), Kobe Bryant (Nash and KB spoke this week about playing together), and the opportunity to win a championship before he retires.
Most important of all for Steve Nash, though, is the chance to stay close to his children (who reside in Phoenix) now that he will be living and working in Los Angeles.
It`s fair to say that the Lakers are absolutely in a better position upon season`s end. With Nash, Bryant gets to play with another star in the backcourt, while Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum get to play with a floor general unlike either has ever had before.
