We are very fortunate that we have wonderful friends all over Germany so it allows for some interesting travel when we are able to catch up with them. So during the summer of 2010 my husband and I finally were able to visit a dear friend of ours who lived in Überlingen which is located on Lake Constance (Bodensee in Deutsch), in the south of Germany. Lake Constance is bordered by Germany, Switzerland and Austria. It is the largest body of water in Germany so it allows for all types of recreation. We started off off our visit by checking out the town of Überlingen, which we found incredibly charming with its winding stone streets and beautiful waterfront. Since we were lucky to have such lovely weather we decided to take the ferry to Insel Mainau, located in Lake Constance (you can also reach the island by car). Mainau is an island which visitors can pay a fee to visit. While we did not choose to take advantage, guided tours are offered. There are many beautiful attractions on the island such as numerous gardens, The Castle of the Teutonic Order, a palm house, a butterfly house as well as many restaurants. Lake Constance itself is a wonderful and beautiful place to visit, I cant imagine not paying Mainau a visit as well. While Mainau is typically a summer destination, the island is open year round.
Have you traveled to Germany, if so where?
