I already posted about my trip to Ottawa last weekend, talking about the Tulip festival and hanging out in Byward Market, eating some Beavertails.
One other thing I got to experience while in Byward was a lunch a La Bottega. La Bottega is an Italian supermarket started by a family that has been in Ottawa for decades.
They opened their first supermarket in the 70s but La Bottega in Byward has become the most popular by far!!! Local chefs have been known to shop their for their fresh ingredients as well rare items imported from Italy. In recent years, they have expanded to house a small cafe as well as a sandwich counter. My sister kept going on about these amazing sandwiches so we decided to stop by for a quick bite.
My friend and I were still pretty full from our Beavertails so we decided to split a sandwich. We also got some Boccoccini and grape tomatoes for the three of us to share.
The sandwich counter allows you to customize. You choose your bread, your choice of meat, cheese and then your toppings.
The line up was pretty long, but they move really fast so it didn`t take long at all.
We chose this great panini bread, prosciutto, mozzarella and added lettuce, tomatoes, black olives and mayo.
You can really taste the difference that fresh bread and toppings make, and for each sandwich being under 5 bucks, they certainly cram a lot of meat and toppings in there.
