Next on my tour for everyone on must visit beaches of North Carolina is Kure Beach. If you don`t want to go to a resort beach like Wrightsville beach, nor want to camp out like at Carolina Beach State Park, then the perfect balance is located a little ways from Wrightsville beach at Kure Beach. Located in New Hanover County just south of Wilmington, and close to Carolina Beach State Park, Kure Beach has also been nicknamed the Southern Gibraltar due to the rough waters where the Cape Fear river and the Atlantic Gulf Stream meet. This Beach has some hotels around the area, but none of the resort feel to it like in Wrightsville Beach and it`s not as secluded as Carolina Beach State Park. It does boost an aquarium and a large park. The Park has a large play area with climbing, jumping, crawling and balancing equipment for kids of many ages so the area is very family friendly. The nearby Civil war era Fort Fisher also makes for a nice historical visit in the area. Another historical fact about this area is that Kure Beach was the ONLY beach on the east coast to be fired upon by a German U-boat during WWII. No one was hurt but it makes for a unique tail for the area history. The fishing in the area is great and the surfing is for experts only due to the rough waters. So if you`re looking for a great place to the bring the family but don`t want to overwhelm them then Kure Beach is the perfect beach place for you.
