Since me and the man have started taking running seriously and eating super healthy we`ve been looking at marathons to run. At first it was only ones in North America and then he found a website (http://www.marathontours.com/) which lists half marathons and marathons on all continents. He decided that we`d be going to do the Safaricom half marathon in 2015 why so far in advance you may ask? Well because of the price since each person must make a $1,000 USD charitable donation and also fundraising is asked of people for the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy(1) where the race takes place and the cost of traveling here is quite expensive along with accomodation packages as well and this would probably be our only vacation for the year. This event is the only event run on the 62,000 acre Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. The two looped course offers beautiful scenery with Mount Kenya(3) 20 miles to the south, Samburu National Park(2) and Mt. Lololokwe(4) to the north. The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is home to over 125 black and white rhinos, elephants, oryx, eland, zebra, giraffe, buffalo, lion, leopard and cheetah. There are helicopters and spotter planes to watch the animals to ensure there are no encounters during the race. I sure hope not I don`t want to be someone`s meal while running lol. I am wary of visiting since you have to have these vaccines upto date Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio,Typhoid, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Yellow fever, Rabies, Meningitis and also take anti malarial pills and recommeded you bring anti-diarrhoeal medication and oral rehydration sachets. This future trip sounds like a pain already, but I am sure I have most of those vaccinations upto date or so I hope to god since Canadian health care doesn`t cover traveler`s health vaccinations :( yes our health care system isn`t all free. I am not sure if I want go to since I don`t want to get mauled by an animal or catch anything. I want to go on a safari though I am not going to lie lol.
Have you ever been to Africa?
Does this trip sound like a trip you`d go on? May be minus the running may be and with some safari/animal viewing and air balloon fun in most people`s cases lol
