Wow, what a fierce move!
On the day of Tom Cruise`s 50th birthday (July 3rd), Katie Holmes filed for an emergency custody hearing (ouch!). From what I gather, it means:
- she is requesting immediate response from the judge for the custody and child support of their 6-year-old daughter, Suri;
- the case is now open to the public, and anyone can walk into the court room to see what happens (yikes!);
- Tom cannot use his California lawyer, who helped in his past divorce with Nicole Kidman. He will have to scramble to find a New York lawyer;
- their court date is on July 17 (in 2 weeks).
Katie is FIERCELY determined to have sole residential custody of Suri. From this filed act, it suggests that Kate does not believe Tom will cooperate in court, thus she wants as much control of this situation as possible.
It takes guts to put this case in public. Rarely do celebrities want their dirty laundry aired, especially if it could damage your career and reputation. I doubt Tom is willing to risk that.
It seems like Katie has nothing to hide, and is willing to do whatever it takes to protect her daughter from Tom`s deep roots and beliefs in Scientology and it`s community. It also signifies that she is unafraid of Tom, his connections, or Scientology`s alleged threat tactics.
Just thinking, Katie and Suri`s situation must be pretty severe and dangerous. The fact that the divorce and new home were secretly planned well in advance - with no knowledge to Tom - speaks volumes.
Also, her security team, driver, PR team, etc were all abruptly fired, and new members/pre-Tom employees were rehired. She replaced her phone #`s, and even her friends cannot contact her (intense protection!)
I hope Katie obtains full custody of Suri. It seems like she is genuinely looking out for her daughter`s best interest.
