One of my newest obsessions is making kale chips at home. They are a healthier alternative to potato chips when you are looking for something salty with some crunch! My sister makes them all the time, and Ive started to make them more often too! (Ive also been inspired by some fellow Luuxers :P)
The texture these have is actually similar to Lays chips that are super thin. I`m not saying they are exactly like potato chips, but they certainly help curb any cravings I get.
The best past is that they are super easy to make!
All you need is a bunch of kale, some olive oil and some salt.
Start off by preheating your oven to 350F. While the oven heats up, start prepping your kale.
Wash the kale leaves and pat them dry. Remove the leafy part from the stalk and cut into bite size pieces (you can just do this with your hands). You can save the stalks and use them for soups if you dont want to throw them out or compost them.
Next drizzle the leaves with a little bit of olive oil. I use around 1.5 to 2 tablespoons for 1 large bunch of kale. Also sprinkle with some salt - I use around half a teaspoon. Toss the seasoned kale to make sure it is coated well with the oil. If you want some extra flavours, you can use seasoning salt, or something like garlic salt too!
Next, lay the kale down on a cookie sheet. Try to avoid overcrowding the sheet otherwise you will end up with some burnt kale chips and some raw ones. Feel free to do them in batches, or to use multiple cookie sheets and rotate them in the oven!
You want to bake the kale until they are slightly browned and crispy. This usually take between 10 to 15 minutes. I like to check every 5 minutes and rotate the sheets if I`m making a large batch, checking more often towards the end of the process!
When you cook the kale, you end up losing a lot of the bitterness that people don`t like. Instead, you end up with some tasty kale chips that are a great snack. My sister and make these all the time, and they never last for long. Even my parents who don`t really like the taste of kale, love these chips! :)
