HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! I just felt the need to add caps to that post! Anyways, wow I cannot believe it is 2014 already. I think this year is going to be one to really remember. Sticking with traditions on NYE my family likes to keep it very small & casual. We just invite our grandparents over and we serve appetizers, dinner & of course dessert! We chat & eat while we wait until the ball to drop to ring in the new year! This year I was so into helping prepare so I am doing a mass post on what we served! First is the table of appetizers! My mom and I made two dips, a 7 layer bean dip with refried beans, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes and olives and a spinach & artichoke dip that is a copy cat recipe from Applebee`s! Then we also rolled out crescent dough to make mini hot dogs as well as lining a plate full of shrimp cocktail. We had some grapes we needed to use so I made a circle plate of a cheese mixture of cheddar, swiss, pepper jack & colby jack cheese with some crackers! My grandma then brought Mediterranean mix of feta, peppers, olives and artichoke! This platter was actually a favorite of mine that night! On to the main course even though we were already stuffed by this time! I put together a white vinaigrette salad with cranberries, feta & pecans for a started. Then for sides I made a quinoa mixture with sautéed vegetables like zucchini, squash, peppers & broccoli then I simple sprinkled some lemon over it. Also as a side I made sautéed mushrooms and onions to go with the main course of shell steak that was simply broiled and seasoned. My mom also made about 2 lbs of garlic shrimp which is basically shrimp tossed with butter, garlic & lemon! We also had some rolls of course! We were all so full by the time we waited about 2 hours until we moved onto dessert! For dessert my mom bought a fruit bowl from the stores as well as put out some Lindt chocolates she received as a gift. We had cookies we made over the whole Christmas holiday and I made a cranberry walnut tart/pie the night before that everyone loved! It was just the right amount of sweetness to end the night. Since none of us are into drinking champagne, we brought out a bottle of Trader Joe`s Pink Sparkling Lemonade! Instead of hearing the cork pop the bottle simple fizzed as we filled our glasses to bring in the new year! The lemonade was fizzy and sweet! Overall it was such a fun night with the family and I can hardly wait to get this year started! I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year!
