My mom came to my home yesterday, happy like a child with a lollipop. She said she had bought me a wonderful piece of cake she had seen of TV the day before. And this pastry turned out to be none other than the Juchheim pastries that is so popular in Japan. That`s so sweet of her. She must have bought quite a number of pieces to distribute around, she had huge paper bags from them.
Anyway, I`m surprised that Juchheim had such a long history, all the way back to Tsingtao in China where it was all started by a German called Karl Juchheim. It ended up in Japan when Karl was forced to Japan during the WWII when Tsingtao was occupied by the Japanese. They have a shocking 351 stores in Japan now, excluding the ones overseas. Takashimaya Singapore opened their first outlet some time ago and many people are amused by the rotating baking machine.
