One of my favourite bloggers mentioned using a Jordana Garlic Basecoat a lot, so I thought I`d check it out at my local dollar store. There were two basecoats available - the garlic one, which claimed to help with nail growth, and a calcium one, which claims to help with dry, brittle nails. I opted for the Calcium Boost Basecoat because I definitely need help with strenghening my nails!
As this is basecoat contains a calcium gel, it is a bit thicker than some basecoats. However, it`s still really easy to use - it`s not so thick that it`s difficult to apply. It does have a slight blue tint, but that doesn`t show up when you apply a colour polish over it. I wouldn`t use this as a topcoat though, as it might give off a bit of a blue tint. But if you`re going for that effect anyway, it couldn`t hurt to try it out. :)
I`ve only used this once or twice so far, and it does help to keep colour polish from staining nails. I think I may have noticed a bit less damage than usual when I removed my polish afterwards, but I`m not sure how much...I will definitely have to use it a few more times. At the very least, it doesn`t make my nails more brittle and damaged than usual! :)
I`d say that I`m happy with this basecoat. It doesn`t perform miracles or anything, but it does what it`s supposed to do without damaging my nails in the process.
