What sparked this post?
Today, I found a photo from August 2007 of my makeup brush collection. I thought to myself, "why not do a comparison photo to see what crazy purchases I have made in a 5 year span?"
Thoughts on the 5-year comparison:
It seems like I didn`t buy many brushes for the face, but did buy many more brushes for the eyes. I`m not too shocked about this fact. The increase in size of my eyeshadow brushes is definitely a direct result of my search for the perfect crease and blending brush. I have smaller eye sockets and thus a smaller crease area to work with. As much as I love the MAC 217, it`s too big and fluffy. I can`t achieve a more precise application with it and always end up overblending. I have recently found the Laura Mercier pony tail brush and that just ended my crease blending brush search. One thing that I was shocked about when I found the 2007 brush collection picture was how many brushes I already had when I was only 16 years old. I guess my makeup addiction is something that I was sort of born with?
Favourite Brush Brands
My top 3 favourite brush brands are Sonia Kashuk, MAC, and Body&Soul. I`m sure most of you have heard about the first 2 brands and are not surprised by the fact that I like them. I used to be a big MAC brush fan, but after I stopped working my part-time job and started focusing on school, I couldn`t afford them anymore. Then I switched to Sonia Kashuk. Although this brand is not available in Canada, I do have access to them whenever I make a trip down to the states. Now to the 3rd brand, Body&Soul. On my photos, these are the brushes with green handles. I got these on Hautelook as a short-handle travel set. I believe there were 5-6 brushes in the set and costed me $45. I had never heard of this brand before so I actually made the purchase on a whim. When I received the brushes and tried them, I was totally wowed. The hair is very dense on each brush, and extremely soft to the skin. At the same time, they are also very firm and pick up eyeshadow and powder very well. After owning it for about a year now, I have not had even 1 incident of shedding. I`m not sure where I would get stuff from this brand normally, but I will definitely look into it.
Favourite Brushes
Since the photos I took today don`t really show individual brushes very well, I will do a "Favourite Brushes" post later sometime.
