Whenever I go to a Japanese All You Can Eat, I always order these two salads because personally, I think they taste a lot better than the Western ones.
The seaweed they use actually comes in dried form. Once soaked, it is cut into thin strips and marinated in rice vinegar, sesame oil, sesame seeds, salt, sugar and red pepper. This gives it a nice spicy and savory taste. It is also served cold. It is actually more savory and sour than spicy.
The spicy sprouts is first boiled and then marinated with sesame oil and salt. They also add some red pepper flakes to give it a nice kick =)
They make amazing salads that are very different than what we usually get with romaine lettuce.
