Every third Tuesday of the month, the Japanese Friendship Garden is free of admission to San Diego residents. Regular admission is $4 a person, so technically my boyfriend and I are saving $8 but every time we`re supposed to visit, the garden is either closed so finally we remembered it was free today so we decided to take a stroll to Balboa Park.
I remember going to the Garden when I was young, back in Elementary. Then, I remembered it was really cool but honestly when I went today-- I was pretty disappointed! The area was really small and there was nothing interesting except the patio where there is a small pond with koi fishes. The vocal point of this place didn`t have many places for people to sit.. most hogged it up so you just stand. Kind of boring, nothing WOWED me. =(
Which is probably why the Japanese Friendship Garden is under reconstruction and expanding the area. But this project costs millions in which I think the admission fees will increase.
Overall: I personally wouldn`t pay $4 for admission even though it`s cheap. However if you`re someone who wants a relaxing place to sit and perhaps read a book then this is a place you`d want to visit.
Do you have any Japanese Garden in your area that you visit?
