So yesterday was a day when many Polish Americans celebrate Paczki Day .It`s always the last Thursday before Ash Wednesday. The reason for making paczki is that Catholics shoud not eat eggs, lard, sugar and other good stuff during Lent.So Thursday is the last day for eating that kind of stuff.
I live in Chicago where there is a large Polish community and the city celebrates the festival on both Fat Thursday and Fat Tuesday.Anyways ,my family always celebrate this on Thursday .
Every year I buy paczki from the very famous Polish bakery in IL ,where one paczek is about $3 which is very expensive but it`s so delicious. They have so many different stuffing you can choose from like Rose Lekvar,Plum butter,Bavarian Cream and many ,many more!
This year I wanted to make paczki by myself, but my kids wanted some doughnuts instead. They are very easy to make but it took me almost 4 hours to make the dough and the glaze, and the to fry and decorate them.My older son wanted some sprinkles on the doughnuts so I had to go to Target and get some because for him ,sprinkles is the most important ingredient in making doughnuts lol.
I made 40 doughnuts and I have no idea when we finish them .After yesterday I have enough already:)But they are very delicious!
Pictures are mine:)
