These are 2 pastries I picked up at my local Italian bakery earlier in the week. Some of my favorites were sold out, so I opted to go with a typical Ricotta Square that I love (the square pastry). I`ve featured a post on this before, but it`s a top and bottom pastry that`s heavier like a crust but not flaky and the inside is a ricotta mixture with sugar. Typically most ricotta squares have a lemon taste to them and/or chocolate chips but this for some reason had neither of those tastes to them. But it was good nonetheless. The round dessert is something I used to get all the time at a local Italian pizzeria/sandwich shop. The co-owner is a huge lover of baking so he makes his own Italian pastry. Since I haven`t been in there in a while, I decided to get a dessert I used to get there all the time. Forgive me, but I`m spelling this wrong, but they call this (the rounded one) a pastachorte. It`s a pastry dough, similar to a bit of a cookie dough which is filled with a vanilla pudding/custard. I prefer the one I get at the pizzeria/sandwich shop because it just TASTE better. This one was a little dry and, meh. Overall not the greatest trip to the Italian bakery.
What is your favorite Italian dessert?
