As a member of BzzAgent I was invited to join a campaign reviewing pizza by Dr. Oetkers brand of pizza, Ristorante. Being an Agent, I answered a few question survey was qualified and was sent my introductory package in the mail, which included two coupons for free pizza to be purchased at my local grocery store. I have tried Ristorante Pizza in the past, but there have been a few flavors I had not tried before. Ristorante Pizza comes in a number of flavors all are thin crust: Pizza Spinaci (spinach pizza), Pizza Mozzarella, Pizza Funghi (mushroom pizza), Pizza Vegetale (veggie pizza), Pizza Quattro Formaggi (4 cheese pizza) and Pizza Speciale (pepperoni & ham). Since my boyfriend isnt a huge lover of cheese, I decided to get the Pizza Speciale since it had pepperoni on it (his favorite pizza topping) and I got the Pizza Vegetale since I love vegetables.
I purchased my pizzas at the market, came home and preheated my oven to 425F as the box suggested. I opened each of the boxes and placed them onto a tray to bake for the 12-14 minutes as suggested. The pizza itself was fine frozen I just rearranged a few of the pepperonis on the Pizza Speciale since they were all on to one side. I baked the pies off for 13 minutes and took them out, letting them cool for a few minutes before I put them onto cutting boards and cut them up into 8 slices. I personally, next time around, will cook them a little longer because I like my thin crust a little crunchier. Now, dont get me wrong, after 13 minutes its cooked and the edges are crusty, but I like crispy. Now onto the pizzas!
This pizza comes covered in mozzarella and edam cheese and is liberally covered with large pepperoni slices and chunks of cooked ham. The box also states there is a spicy herb blend added on top of the pizza to help boost the flavor. Personally I didnt taste the spicy, outside of the general spice in pepperoni, but it was good nonetheless. One thing both my boyfriend and I enjoyed about this, was that there is not an overwhelming amount of ooey gooey cheese on this and they are easy on the sauce, so theres no scalding hot sauce burning your lips off.
This pizza comes covered in mozzarella cheese and is liberally covered with assorted vegetables. There are green, red and yellow bell peppers on it, halved cherry tomatoes, red onion and Italian spicy yellow banana peppers. There are also globs of some sort of cheese on the pizza, I suspected it was ricotta but it may be edam cheese mixed with sour cream? Im not sure but its got a very soft ricotta texture to it. It was all over the pie, so my boyfriend wouldnt touch it. I snuck a slice onto his plate, but, he put it back onto the cutting board. Stubborn.
Overall, I would say Ristorante pizza is all around a pretty good tasting frozen pizza. Theyre smaller, so this isnt something Id purchase if I were having a few people over and frozen pizza was on the menu. According to the back of the box 1/3 of the pie is a serving size. But I will say, out of the two I purchased, the Pizza Speciale was the hands down winner out of the two purchased. It had a lot more flavor associated with it and was just more enjoyable to eat. The Pizza Vegetale is a good pie, but the unexplained glob of white even got me scratching my head.
We paired the pizzas with a simple side salad topped with ranch dressing. A good side for a pizza that originated in Italy!
