Last weekend my family and I celebrated my grandmothers birthday. She didnt want a party this year, so instead the whole family got together for dinner. We had dinner at this local Filipino restaurant called Isla. This restaurant is known for their big platter meals which they call bilao which basically is just a big bamboo tray lined with banana leaves and has an assortment of different dishes all on one try with rice in the middle. On the try is a mixture of different items including barbecued meats, grilled seafood, lumpia, chrunchy shrimp crackers, sausages called longanisa, roasted pig, hardboiled eggs, okra, and some chopped up tomatoes and mangoes to go along with the fish. We ordered some other items off the menu including soup, noodles, and a sizzling sisig plate (pork) but I wasnt able to get a photo of it. It was just the right amount of food to feed twelve of us and the food was great! Being that Im Filipino Im very critical of Filipino restaurants and Im usually not a fan of them since I can just have Filipino food at home but I will say that this Filipino restaurant is probably the best ones Ive eaten at and one that I actually come back to. So if your ever in the Bay Area and are looking for good Filipino food check out Isla. There are two locations in the Bay Area.
