I had a real hankering for gyros the other day, so I decided to satisfy my craving by visiting a new place at the suggestion of one of my friends.
Hunter`s Restaurant serves some popular pizza, but since the owners are Greek, they also serve up some bomb Mediterranean food!
I decided to get a gyros dinner, which is served with rice, potatoes, Greek Salad and a side of tzatziki.
I have to say, the gyros wasn`t bad, but definitely not my favourite. It was sliced really thin and didn`t have enough of a crust on it. I prefer when they are cut in thicker slices and heated up on a flat top to crust up the edges.
In fact, these slices were too uniform which makes me think that they weren`t made on a spit (which is the where the name `gyro` comes from - gyro meaning circle or to spin). These were probably made almost like a meatloaf and baked in an oven, which doesn`t give you the authentic taste. Can you tell that I am picky about my gyros? Lol
It`s really a shame since the rest of the food was delicious. I wasn`t even able to finish the generous portion of salad after inhaling the amazing potatoes!
My friend isn`t a fan of gyros and instead swears by their chicken souvlaki, so I may go back and give them another shot with their signature dish instead.
What`s your favourite Greek dish?
