For all those who have read the Hunger Games books, and have seen the movie, what did you think of the cast? I have yet to see the movie but have read the books. I also know that African American actors were added to the cast. No biggie right? Wrong!
I read last night where fans were really disappointed at casting of black actors. One being 12 year old Rue, played by Amandla Stenberg. For those who read the book, she was described as having dark brown skin, and eyes. So her race shouldn`t have been a shock. Even then, if she played her character well, it shouldn`t have mattered.
People took it to extremes and began posting racial tweets regarding the black actors. Cinna ( Lenny Kravitz ), and Thresh, boht played by black actors were attacked as well. Two disturbibg tweets were "Why does Rue have to be black not gonna lie kinda ruined the movie," and "Kk call me racist but when I found out Rue was black her death wasnt as sad."
The tweets have since died down thanks to many who have found what was said disgusting. Its terrible to think we still live in that sort of world. Not that it matters that the actors who play Cinna, and Thresh, are adults because it still hurts, but Amandla Stenberg is merely a child. She is just 13. I can`t imagine what she felt reading and hearing those sort of remarks.
If people really want to complain, they should complain about Peeta! I was expecting a taller, and hunkier piece of beef!
What are your thoughts on this? Did you see the movie? Do you think the cast was well picked?
