Bleach blond hair dye can be the right color for some. For others, it may look too harsh or come out too bright or brassy. If you are in the latter group, there is a way to tone down your bleach blond hair dye so it isn`t so bright or brassy for you. Ash-based toners will help to tone down bleach blond hair that is too brassy, while a neutral toner will help tone down bleach blond hair that is simply too bright.
Cover your shoulders with a drape or towel so that the toner does not stain your skin or clothes.
Put on the plastic gloves. It is important to wear your plastic gloves before even mixing the toner product because while mixing it, the product could get on your hands and stain them.
Mix the toner and developer in the color applicator bottle according to the instructions on the packaging. Typically, you`ll mix equal parts toner with developer, although sometimes it is two parts developer to one part toner.
Use an ash-based toner (one with green or blue tones) on hair that has orange or yellow tones and seems brassy looking.
Use a neutral-colored toner if your hair tone is fine, but the color just needs to be toned down a bit.
Shake the bottle to mix the color well. The color needs to mix well to properly work.
Apply toner all over your hair. Make sure to thoroughly saturate every hair strand for even results. You may comb the toner through your hair to evenly distribute it.
Allow the toner to process for about 20 minutes (or according to package directions) before rinsing.
