Two nights ago for dinner my brother in law asked me to make Sherpherds Pie. He suggested me to make it because I told him a lot of people enjoyed eating it. Since he didn`t have most of the stuff I usually use I worked around the things he had at home.
Things I used:
1. Ground Beef
2. Mixed Veggies
4. Tomato paste (no tomato sauce)
6. Kosher Salt ( no creole seasoning)
7. Cayenne Pepper
9. Potatoes (no instant potatoes)
11. Sour Cream
13. Rotel Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies
15. As Seen on TV potato bag...
16. Potato Masher
Step 1: Cooked the beef first, drain the oil, cooked the onions and mixed veggies together. Put the cover over it to let the veggies and onions cooked a little.
Step 2. Since we didn`t have tomato sauce my bro in law suggested to use Rotel Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies. We grinder it which make it more watery so I used tomato paste. Mixed that with the beef, veggies and onions. Pour cayenne, kosher salts and black pepper and stir them constantly. While it marinates you can do step 3.
Step 3: I usually use instant potatoes, but my bro in law only had regular potatoes. I used potato bag my bro in law bought from Walgreens. I washed the potatoes and stuff at least four potatoes in the bag and cook it for 4 mins.
Step 4: Lower the heat on the beef just so you don`t burn it. Let your potatoes cooled down before you mashed it. Mashed the potatoes, add milk, sour cream and butter. Make sure it`s not chunky.
Step 5: Get a glass Pyrex and start layering your meat and mashed potatoes. I usually spray Pam or spread butter on the Pyrex first. Then I would add a layer of mashed potatoes, sprinkle cheese all over, add a layer of meat and continue doing it. Since the Pyrex was a little short I did three layers only. I usually go with four layers and use bis quick for my top crust. As you can see we didn`t have that at the house.
Step 6: Put it in the oven for about 45 mins since we didn`t use bis quick. Usually I`ll know the bis quick is cooked. After you think it`s hot to eat or serve. Enjoy and share!
