Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford
From the first few pages, I was immediately attached to the main character, Henry. Hes a Chinese outcast in an all Caucasian school during World War II, but he hesitantly befriends a new Japanese girl, Keiko, knowing that his parents would disapprove. Through out the novel, the two form a beautiful friendship while overcoming the harsh racism of that time. I was hooked from the start and felt like I was an unnamed character shadowing the pair throughout their endeavors. Its definitely a good read!
