These here are homemade milk chocolate covered strawberries and pretzel rods! I had mentioned it in passing and while we were out running errands, he asked if I wanted to make them still, so I was all over it. We picked up the stuff and got around to making them the other day. They were really simple to make, the chocolate is a simple melting chocolate that can be picked up at any craft store. I say the chocolate is simple because it can be melted in the microwave! I remember when I was a kid and my mom used to make chocolate lollipops for holidays, events, etc., and you had to melt the chocolate on the stove using a double boiler. How times have changed and made things simplier! We emptied half a bag of chocolate into a bag and microwaved, stirring to combine and melt fully. We washed a container of strawberries and dried them, then dipped them into the melted chocolate and let sit on a cookie tray covered in wax paper. I took some semi sweet mini chocolate chips I had and sprinkled them on the top of some of the strawberries. As the chocolate started to harden, we kind of like gooped it on some of the strawberries.
Lesson learned do not re-microwave chocolate, it doesnt work! After microwaving the second half of the chocolate, we finished off the strawberries and went ahead with dipping the pretzel rods. Overall it was a success and both turned out to be delicious. We actually packed up little goodie bags and delivered these to our families as a little Valentines gift along with our /viz/shannons-valentines-day-themed-cupcakes
