A few days ago, I went to have high tea, or afternoon tea with my friends. Going for high tea seems to be a trend that started sometime maybe last year in my city. All these high tea places just popped up, or at least last year was when I started hearing about them a lot.
Basically you pay around $30 per person, and the place serves a set amount of food on a 3 tiered tray. You don`t get to pick what you get, but the bakery/restaurant picks for you. No 2 tables will get the exact same thing. Usually you get a mix of sweet and savoury desserts.
This one tray shows how much we got for 2 people. It doesn`t seem like much, but we only finished half of what`s on this tray even though we went with an empty stomach. They were super filling.
All in all, it was a nice summer afternoon spent with friends, but I do think that overall high tea is really over priced. The desserts were good but they weren`t fantastic. I think they are mostly charging for the nice presentation maybe?
