One of my cousins got married recently, and for the occasion, I got my hair and make-up done.
I am obsessed with Blo Bar at Bayview Village mall since they do such a good job with my hair, and there is a huge Shoppers Drug Mart right next door that has an expanded make-up counter so after I got my hair done, I popped in and also got my make-up done! Like many make-up counters in department stores, you can get your make-up done for free with a purchase.
I have been recently expanding my mascara horizons, and trying some more high-end brands.
While I still love drug store mascaras, it`s hard to ignore the praise around certain high end brands.
So I ended up picking two high end mascara sets as part of my purchase.
I got my make-up done at the YSL counter and loved the mascara she used on me. Even better what that it was available in a trial set with a full size mascara, mini eyeliner and mini eye makeup remover! The mascara alone is the same price as the set, so it makes sense to pick up the set!
Initially, I also ended buying the YSL lipstick shade she used on me so I could do some touch ups during the evening. But they messed up HUGE! Instead of giving me the deep raspberry shade I had worn, they sold me a white lipstick!! Like solid white!
I went to reapply after dinner during the wedding and discovered the mistake.
I was more than a little peeved, especially since for being such a high-end lipstick, it hadn`t lasted well at all. It was also very drying.
So the next day, I went to exchange the white lipstick (I asked why they carried a white lipstick, and apparently it is used to create ombre lips, or even as a highlight on the lips). I was planning on exchanging for the lipstick I originally thought I was buying, since even though I wasn`t super impressed with the formula, I needed to buy something from the YSL counter.
But I guess they say `everything happens for a reason` and as it turns out they didn`t have the lipstick shade I wanted! Since I wasn`t impressed with the formula anyways, I decided to nix the idea of the lipstick and choose something else.
Because they had messed up, the girl said I could exchange for any make-up item at any of the counters (though initially I was limited to YSL). After roaming through, I came across a little display at the Benefit counter with the They`re Real Mascara. I have the little sample of this from sephora, and I do really like it, but I hadn`t bitten the bullet and bought a full size just yet. I thought it would be the perfect time to pick it up since for the price of the mascara, they also had a trial set with the new They`re Real push up liner! It also has a tiny sample of the Benefit make-up remover as well!
So though I just bought a similar trial set, I ended up buying another lol.
Despite all the confusion with the lipstick, Im glad it gave me an excuse to finally purchase the Benefit mascara in a full size, and also try the new Push-up liner Im so curious about.
After I get a chance to try it out, I will definitely post a review :)
